For this photoshop assignment, we had to take a picture of someplace in our school, and then use Photoshop to manipulate the photo and add in features that changed the context of the photo. For example, I added a rocky blue floor, a lava pit, a San Diego landscape, a clock, a green monster walking down the stairs, and a unicorn. I also added shadows to the unicorn, monster, and clock to make them look a little more realistic. From this project, I learned about selection methods, compositing multiple photos, and more about editing photos.

For this photo assignment, I chose the subject food. My best picture, is of raspberry sorbet, which I took at my mom's friend's baby shower, which was at a hotel restaurant called Rel-ish. I had decided to take my camera to the baby shower just in case I found something worthy of a picture, and I'm glad I did, because there were a lot of good foods there to shoot. From this assignment, I learned more about using aperture and lighting. I also incorporated some of the photoshop tools we had just learned about in our car assignment to enhance some of my other pictures in the gallery. For this picture, I decreased its temperature, tint, exposure, and whites. I also increased highlights, shadows, vibrance, and saturation.
For this assignment, we were given a picture of a car from an auto show, and or task was to edit the photo, using photoshop, to replicate an edited version of the photo by Mr. Bush. In this assignment, we had to use many different tools in Photoshop, like levels, layers, selecting tools, and cropping. After completing this assignment, I have learned much more about Photoshop, and the power of it. Below are the before and after images of the car.
For the second photo assignment, I chose the subject macro. Originally I was got to shoot the subject animals, but I couldn't get my dogs to stand still for even a second. So, after about a hundred blurry pictures, I decided to switch it up and go with macro. I found three fruits in our house, so I set them up on a white binder. I also used another white binder for the background. I took some pictures of the set up of fruit, but didn't really like them, so then I tried using a flashlight to illuminate the fruit. I took more pictures of the fruit like this and liked them a lot better because of the darker background and how the light moved focus to one particular area of the picture. From this shoot, I mainly learned about the macro setting on my camera, and I learned more about lighting. For this photograph, I decreased temperature, exposure, highlights, and vibrance. I increased contrast, shadows, whites, blacks, clarity, and saturation.
For this assignment, we had to take a portrait, and then use Photoshop to edit it and eventually turn it into pop art. Our inspiration was Andy Warhol. This project helped us begin using Photoshop. From this project, I learned how to use Layers, Guides, and how to resize a canvas. I also learned how to use Threshold dialogs, and Anchor Layers.
For our first photo assignment, the subject I chose was nature. Originally, I was going to shoot the subject macro, but then I saw that we would had to take pictures using the macro setting, which I didn't know anything about. So then I just went outside in my backyard, and took some pictures of stuff. There were some small, puddle-sized ice patches in the yard so I decided to focus on it and take some pictures of the ice itself, and of objects on the ice. My best picture is of a small, bright-reddish/orange leaf that was partially stuck in the ice. For that picture, I shot is with a high aperture to take some of the leaf's surroundings into focus. From this shoot, I learned about photoshop, how to really enhance photos you've taken, and how to make pictures look a lot better. I also learned that there are so many interesting things to take pictures of; you just have to look. Finally, I learned about vignetting and how to use it. For this photograph I decreased temperature, and increased exposure, contrast, and vibrance. I also used vignetting, and decreased amount, midpoint, and highlights, and I also increased roundness and feather. And lastly, I cropped the picture to eliminate a portion at the top I didn't like.
What did I learn from this project? This composition assignment taught me eleven basic principles of taking pictures. These eleven principles were rule of thirds, pattern, symmetry, texture, depth of field, lines, framing, perspective, space, balance, and color. My task for this assignment was to take eleven different pictures; each demonstrating a different one of these principles. For some of these principles, I struggled at finding examples of them, but this has taught me to now look and see objects and scenes differently. This photography assignment was only the beginning, and I am now more excited for all the picture-taking to come.
Hi welcome to my blog! My name is Steffi Bentley. I have a mom, dad, one older sister, and two younger brothers. I also have three dogs. I played volleyball and I am playing basketball for the Saline High School. I might also play soccer. I decided to take digital photography this year because I want to take pictures, but the main reason is because I like taking pictures and I want to learn how to make them better. I have no digital photography experience so I am excited to learn a lot about using a camera and taking pictures! |
